Shawn Lyles is founder of Fueled By Fitness and SL Enterprises, LLC. Fueled by Fitness provides YOU a way of exercise that emphasizes consistency, intensity, and most of all… FUN!

What should I expect?

The first thing you should expect is a consultation free of charge! Once you and your trainer have discussed your goals and assessed your current fitness level, you will be led through a program of intense workouts tailored specifically for you, involving an introduction to cardio and core exercises.

You also have the option to train with a friend or partner where you can enjoy the added support as well as lower rates. We offer in-studio training as well as training in your home or office at your convenience.



Shawn is a fitness professional with 15 years experience in the fitness industry.

His specialties include:

Shawn also offers nutritional tips and recommendations.

Shawn works with men and women of all age groups and fitness ability levels on a one on one basis. You also have the option to train with a friend or partner where you can enjoy the added support as well as lower rates.
We offer in-studio training, as well as training in your home or office.

A lifelong martial arts enthusiast, Shawn has studied various disciplines, including:
· Tae kwon Do
· Wrestling
· Okinawan Goju- ryu
· Wing Chun
· Kali

While enjoying certain aspects of all the arts, the rigidity and militarism was a turn off. In 2008, he was introduced to CMT Chuck Jeffreys and Combattitude.

The Philosophy of Combattitude was the fit perfect fit. Combattitude offers martial arts applications that are usable in the real world and training that challenges you mentally and physically, but in a fun a supportive manner.

CMT Jeffreys certified Shawn as an instructor in 2010. Since then, Shawn has been teaching combattitude in the DC Metropolitan area for the past year and a half at the District Circle. Shawn also conducts early morning Small Group Exercise Classes and he volunteers his time for the Washington,DC based non-profit organization ‘Bread for the City’.

Shawn is a CFFA certified Combattitude Instructor, an AFAA certified Group Fitness Instructor, and a NSCA certified Personal Trainer. He is the founder of ‘Fueled By Fitness’ and SL Enterprises, LLC.

I have worked with Shawn for more than a year and a half, and I couldn’t be happier with the results I’m getting. At 40 years old I’m in the best shape of my life, and my body has never looked better. Whenever I get compliments from people who notice I’ve been working out, I always feel like he deserves the compliments just as much as I do. More importantly, I’ve begun rebuilding my bones and reversing the bone less that led to my being diagnosed with osteoporosis three years ago, which is the primary reason I started weight training. I could not have gotten to this point without him, and I feel very fortunate to have him as my trainer.

Shawn is a dedicated professional who brings a level of maturity and dedication to his job that sets him apart from other personal trainers I’ve worked with. He is knowledgeable and creative in the workouts he designs for me, and is always mindful of the goals I’ve set for myself and tailors my sessions to help me reach them. He has also been invaluable in helping me recover from various injuries (tendonitis in my Achilles tendons and rotator cuff), by adjusting my workouts to let my injuries heal and incorporating physical therapy exercises into my regular routine to aid my recovery. He has even taken time on his own to research the physical problems I want to address (weakness in my lower back and osteoporosis) so he can make sure I get the most out of my workouts.

But what sets Shawn apart is the caring and encouraging approach he brings to training. He keeps me working hard – harder than I’d ever work on my own – but he is always positive and upbeat when pushing me to do my best. He truly takes pleasure in the progress I’ve made, and always makes me feel like I can do anything. And no matter what kind of mood I’m in when we start our sessions, I always feel better after an hour with him. He is a fabulous trainer and kind, good-hearted person with a reassuring and supportive manner, and I recommend him without reservation.

My twice weekly, hour sessions with Shawn keep me on track and actually motivate me to get to the gym

at least two more times in the week.   Shawn listens to his clients wishes and puts together individualized sessions.

For example, he knows I bore easily, so no two sessions are the same – he keeps me on my toes!

Shawn pushes me to do my best – but knows how far is enough.  He has worked with me through several physical injuries and again, personalized the sessions to work around injured areas and helped make them strong again.
